        A second research seminar was held at RMIT University on March 24-24, 2014 on the subject of changes taking place in graduate education.

        Papers were presented on the following subjects:

        • Linlin Li, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China: “Dreaming to Be Internationalized: Chinese Students’ Expectations Towards Doing Postgraduate Study Abroad”
        • Chih-Hsien Yang and Shang-Shing P. Chou, Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei, Taiwan: “Challenges and Strategic Development of PhD Education of Fu Jen Catholic University”
        • Edilberto C. de Jesus, Asia Institute of Management, Manila, Philippines: “Graduate Education in Asia Pacific Higher Education: Changing Roles and Purposes”
        • Prompilai Buasuwan, Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand: “Diploma Disease in Thai Higher Education”
        • Christopher Ziguras, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia: “Novel Forms of Financing Cross-border Graduate Education”
        • Pearl Imada Iboshi, Ming Zhang, Sanford Beppu, and Winnie Wu, University of Hawaii System, USA: “An Examination of Employment Outcomes for Graduate Education at the University of Hawaii”
        • Bundit Fungtammasan and Kaokanya Sudaprasert, King Mongkut’s University for Technology Thonburi, Bangkok, Thailand: “Research-led Industry-oriented Graduate Programs in Thailand: a review”
        • Denise Cutbert, Robyn Barnacle and Tebeje Molla, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia: “The Passionate Knowledge Worker: Exploring Tensions in Knowledge and Innovation Policy Discourses in Australia”
        • Vincent, Pang, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Sabah, Malaysia: “Postgraduate Research Student Experience in Malaysia”
        • Farrah Dina Yusop, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: “Improving the Quality of Contemporary Graduate Education: A Proposal for Nurturing Future Civic-minded Professionals”
        • Deane Neubauer, University of Hawaii, Manoa, USA: “Graduate Degrees in the Emergent Political Economy of Contemporary Globalization”

        As a result of this meeting, a sub-group consisting of participants from Australia, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan will be forming a research cluster focused on developing a cross border-sensitive inventory of graduate degree activities from which they will seek funding for a two-year comparative study of critical attributes of graduate education within the region.
